The Grouse and Claret
Situated on the Clarens Village Square, this family pub and restaurant in styled on an old English Country Pub theme – with a special eastern Free State sandstone building-ethic. Originally a homestead, the building is one of the oldest in Clarens.
Menu specialities cover traditional pot-pies (steak and kidney, Shepard’s, chicken and mushroom, etc) to sophisticated beef, seafoods and curries. The indoor dining area is strictly non-smoking, while the pub and outdoor areas are festive – and offer the best ‘pub grub’, draught beer, televisions for sport and lots of tall stories from the locals!
A favourite with visiting interest groups (bikers, veteran cars, birders, hikers, etc), the Grouse and Claret has fine restaurant dining, family fun and a safe country pub experience. Don’t miss the Monday night ‘Pub Quiz Evenings’.

Debbie is an asset to this lovely restaurant and bar, I had the prawns and my wife had the steak kidney Pie, absolutely delicious. Debbie kept us laughing all night and we had a great time.

This is a must if you are going to Clarens, the town would not be the same without it! Trust me after a night in the G&C Pub, you will need a good breakfast & The Grouse makes the best scrabled eggs I've ever tasted! Debbie, Frank & Richard are fab behind the bar & you are sure to meet the friendliest people in Clarens!
