Spirit of Africa Taxidermy
The Spirit of Africa Taxidermy showroom and workshop is located approximately three minutes walk from Howick centre in an industrial estate. Spirit of Africa Taxidermy performs a full range of taxidermy services for African and exotic wildlife – from game heads to full body mounts. The showroom is definitely worth a visit – with animals from around the world on display, including fish and birds. High quality bronze sculptures and curios are also on sale.
Tony says: “Every hunter wishes to re-live their memorable experiences. At Spirit of Africa Taxidermy, I use my skills to re-create true to life trophies to bring back the thrill of the chase and rekindle an admiration for your quarry and the good times you experienced in the wild. My previous hunting and guiding activities provide the basis for my on-going study of animal anatomy and assist me to reproduce the beauty and grace found in nature. The objective of my work is to archive artistic excellence in sculpture and taxidermy, while keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in materials and methods.”
Although taxidermy has been a family business since the early 1950’s – first in Canada and then in Australia – Tony only moved to South Africa in 2001. Spirit of Africa has become renown for its high quality of product, and has clients from across the world. Services provided include trophy care, custom packing for shipment overseas, tanning and taxidermy, and restoration and repair of trophies.
Visitors are welcome in the showroom and can make an appointment to have a tour of the workroom and to watch Tony at work.
