Madrid Farm Cottages

Madrid Farm has been in the Mousley family for 132 years.  There are three self-catering cottages on the farm – all close enough to the homestead to be safe, but also very private.  In the garden is a Banksia rose, which was planted soon after the first George Bennett Mousley arrived to take up residence sometime between 1869 and 1872.

Sunrise Cottage is a stone building, which was originally built in the 1940's as a school for the Mousley children and their neighbours, but has been a guest cottage since 1992.  It has two double bedrooms (one double, two single beds) and two bathrooms.

Sunset Cottage was built in 1979 as a granny cottage and is on the other side of the homestead from Sunrise.  Sunset has one bedroom with optional double or single beds and one bathroom.

Sunshine Cottage has two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

All the cottages have an open plan living area with fully-equipped kitchens, open fireplaces and private braai (barbecue) areas.  Linen, electric blankets, fans and heaters are provided.  The cottages are serviced daily and the first bag of wood each day is free of charge.

Jams, chutneys and interesting sandstone water troughs (birdbath size) are available for sale.  Guests are welcome to walk anywhere on the farm.  Dogs are not welcome as the farm has six already!  The farm turnoff is 9km from Clarens and 12km from Golden Gate National Park – making it the ideal central location for most activities in the area.
