The historical town of Utrecht in situated in KwaZulu-Natal along the famous Battlefields Route.  The town has many national monument buildings including Shawe House, Rothman House (best remaining examples of colonial architecture in KwaZulu-Natal), Dirkie Uys House (built by the Beer Laffras Uys), Utrecht Jail, the Pastorie and the Town Hall – to name but a few.

The town itself is the only town in South Africa that is situated within a Game Park.  The park boasts many species of wildlife namely leopard, giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, zebra and eland.  The Utrecht Dam is situated 2-3km from the lodge where watersports and fishing are popular.  Game drives, fly-fishing, quad biking and hiking are some of the adtivities available in the Utrecht district.
