Thomas Kubayi Wood Carving

Thomas describes his business in his own words:

I started wood curving art at the age of eleven while I was doing standard 1, now grade 3. In 1983 my artwork started to become visible because I was assisted to exhibit my work at show events and other exhibition centres around the country. During 1989 I met John Baloyi, one of the best artist in the region and we worked together. During that time my work was just for entertainment purposes until I met Jackson Hlungwane in 1993. Jackson encouraged me to sell my work as he was impressed with my talent. This has helped to an extent that tourists started trickling to my place. Now with the help of Pfuxananani Youth Centre and Ribolla Tourism Association, my work is getting more marketing exposure”.
