Safely harnessed in state of the art climbing gear and under the close supervision of a professional team of guides, prepare yourself for a three hour adventure which will take you amongst the birds, monkeys, trees and other plants of this magnificent forest.

They can host team building and conference groups, as well as smaller parties and individual adventurers, but booking is essential.

Taking people to new heights:

There is little wonder that Nature appreciators from near and far are continuously attracted to KZN’s picturesque Eco Adventure tourism site. The Karkloof Canopy Tour provides the discerning traveler with the ultimate eco adventure experience. The concept of Canopy Tour originated in the rain forests of Costa Rica, where scientists were studying species in the Canopy Layer of the Forest. Safely sliding from tree to tree to a series of platforms became a novel way to see the flora and fauna of an indigenous forest. A whole new level of appreciation was born when the concept became one of South Africa’s most popular eco adventure activities. Of the six Canopy Tours in Southern Africa, Karkloof is the closest to Durban, in the heart of the Midlands.

To be custodians of a rare and un-spoilt indigenous forest is just one of the many privileges that KCT has. Recently a group of Grade 7 learners from Gathmore local farm school were given the experience of a lifetime. To begin their journey into High school they got to experience their surroundings from a very different angle. High flying amongst the trees, the students found, from within, their sense of courage, giving them some extra confidence for their High school years ahead. The privilege of being able to contribute to the surrounding community is one that KCT is embracing with open arms. KCT has partnered with the Wildlands conservation trust to establish a mentorship program. Four guides from KCT, will mentor Grade 7’s from four local schools. The students will share in the experience of a guide in the eco tourism industry.  They will be tasked with identifying and solving an environmental challenge faced by their community. The staff and guides at KCT are truly living their values. Earlier this year the mentors from KCT assisted team leaders at the Three Cranes school race. The race was hosted by the Karkloof Conservancy and Wildlands, “We look forward to the positive impact we can have in our community, by building meaningful relationships with these organizations” says Kai, owner of the Canopy Tour.

Karkloof has an impressive repertoire of corporate clients who have not only added People and Planet to their bottom line, but also have a desire to experience an unrivaled view of a truly unique South African Forest. KCT now offers corporate clients the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint associated with their team building outing through the Wildlands Treeprenuer program.

Kai says that “we not only want to attract the socially conscious traveller, but also create awareness in travellers to value and recognize the importance of being socially and environmentally responsible”.
