These family suites can sleep five to six people in three separate rooms, with one full bathroom and shared sitting room with television – but no kitchen. The sitting room can sleep two. This room has its own air-conditioning unit.

Blue Crane Suites:
Set amid the four acre garden is a cluster of rondavels painted in shades of blue (naturally)!

Canimambo is a family run restaurant, where you can meet Carla, the Mozambican/Portuguese owner, husband Lance, sons Sean and Wesley, and daughter Courtney at Graskop, and daughter Nicole and husband Nando at Dullstroom. We pride ourselves in authentic cuisine, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere.

Look out for the following when visiting Canimambo Portuguese Restaurant:

The breadbasket: Portuguese rolls are an absolute treat and a meal within a meal;

Lulas grelhadas (calamari steaks) – flame grilled which should never be passed up;

Figados de galinha á piri-piri (peri-peri chicken livers) is a local institution. Use the bread to mop up the lovely juices and you will understand why they never go out of fashion;

Batata frita - hands down the South African Portuguese make the best potato chips in the country. Double fried with lots of salt and dollops of vinegar on demand, makes it comfort food in the extreme;

Espetada de bife - The Portuguese espetada consists of cubes of perfectly aged rump steak, bay leaves and lemon dipped in course salt before landing on the grill. The natural bay leaf flavour permeates the meat and the salt seals those meaty juices in. Charred on the outside and succulent inside, it’s a steak meal with a difference.

Being a sea-faring nation the Portuguese were intrepid explorers and amongst the first Europeans to visit the Cape of Good Hope in the 1500’s. In the Colonial era that followed they left their mark in various places on the African continent – Angola, Moçambique and South Africa. From the indigenous people they learnt the usefulness of chilies (peri-peri), which they combined with more traditionally Portuguese ingredients such as olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Where European Portuguese food is delicately flavoured, Mozambican/Portuguese– South African cuisine is fearlessly fiery.

OpenAfrica.org

<Point>

The main house is a welcoming oasis that soon lures you into a relaxing mode amongst the sounds of the African bush. The large en-suite bedrooms all open out onto deep shadowed verandas. Positioned on a high rise in the otherwise flat lowveld landscape, spectacular sun and moon rises are experienced.

The Owl House is a converted cottage that were the original cow sheds of a cattle farm. It is called the Owl House because when building alterations started, owls were living there. Being a unique and private facility, the Owl House soon became the favourite of a number of regular visitors. Comprising two bedrooms, two bathrooms, outside shower, two patios and kitchen, it sleeps three indoors but has on occasion catered for up to 10 people - some pitching a tent and others sleeping outside in the open on beautifully crafted cement benches (under roof – bring your own sleeping bags). Situated privately close to the main house (approximately 100m away), you can enjoy some of the main house attractions. Cool off in the nearby swimming pool, have breakfast or dinner while watching some amazing sun or moon rises with views over the Kruger National Park. On occasions you can attend a concert, a jazz evening, or some of the special events that are on offer from time to time.

The bush camp is a uniquely designed, African village style building in the middle of a nature conservancy (Silonque). The Bush Camp is where traditional and modern elements have been beautifully combined in a house that feels like a 21st century African hut. The bush camp sleeps six people - two each in three air-conditioned rooms (not en-suite).
Leka Gape Shelter/Organisation

As a non-profit organisation, Leka Gape mostly cares about socially disadvantaged people in one of the poorest regions of South Africa. Leka Gape workers want to find solutions to important problems such as poverty and unemployment, but also to alcoholism and to psychological and physical abuse. Projects, which are always done in cooperation with locals, mainly focus on young people and women.

Leka Gape aims it’s support at the field of social work as well as economic development. Two reasons contribute to that: Firstly, effective social help cannot work without a certain economic reality and income generating projects always have to include a social component. Secondly, this makes it possible to generate money for other social projects.

Thus, Leka Gape initiates many projects both in the social and economic sectors. For example, a bakery was built. Besides the government, this is the most important employer in Lulekani. The shelter was recently opened to give women and children in need a safe haven.

The organisation runs the following projects:
