Zambelozi Island Lodge

Bruce and Julie Johnson take pride in coming from a family that has had ties with the Barotse Royal Establishment since the late 19th Century. One of their grandparents was born in Mongu, the capital of Western Zambia, in 1910. He was the son of a wandering Irish prospector who started with nothing but “made it big” in the wilderness of Africa, making a lifelong friend of the Lewanika (the king of Barotseland).

The lodge sleeps only 12 guests in six en-suite chalets (going up to a maximum of 16 guests in eight chalets later in the season) and is serviced by 25 staff.

The staff that look after your daily needs have all been actively involved in the actual building of the lodge.

Full time 220-volt electricity supplied by under river armoured cable ensures cool comfort in your accommodation, ice in the fridges, bubbles in the Jacuzzi and a forest pool.

Activities on the island include birding, fishing, hiking, exploring the baobab forest and mokoro rides.
