Trading Post B&B

The Trading Post B&B comprises a fully equipped self contained, self-catering cottage, with a double bed and, if required, a single bed.  There is also a lovely self-contained rondavel with a queen-sized bed.  Inside the main house there is a double bedroom en-suite with two single beds.

Breakfast, when required, is served in the main dining room/lounge which overlooks the park-like garden.  In winter, a fire creates a warm comfortable ambience in which to dine.

Television, M-Net and DSTV are available only in the main lounge, and fax, email and Internet facilities are available on request.  Braai (barbeque) facilities are in the garden under the trees, and off road parking offers security for vehicles.

Activities:

The Trading Post is a springboard for visiting the Balela Dam, the country club, the bird biome, and the battlefields.  Hunting as part of the culling in the game park is also allowed, by arrangement only.

There is a variety of homemade jam, chutney, salsa and fruitcake on sale.

Interesting stories and history:

Dr Niemeyer and his wife lived in the house prior to December 1939, and story has it that his wife was German and did not make friends very easily.  She would often be seen taking her constitutional around the town on her own.  Dr Niemeyer, on his death, bequeathed his money to erect a hospital, and today the Niemeyer Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in Utrecht.  The resident ghosts of Dr Niemeyer, who died in December 1939, and his wife, who died in January 1940, identified by photographs displayed in the Niemeyer Memorial Hospital, can be still be seen today.

There is also a section of the old water voor (furrow), which provided water to the properties in bygone days, at the bottom of the garden.
