Sakazima Island Lodge

Sakazima Island Lodge is situated in the upper Zambezi River, approximately 150km upstream from Victoria Falls and Livingstone.  At this point the Zambezi River flows over a basalt shelf known as the Ngambwe rapids and has formed a series of small islands interlinked with waterways, channels and lagoons.  The lodge nestles on a prominent island in this system.  A large section of the river passes over rapids giving meaning to the name Sakazima - 'Fire on water'.

The lodge itself is built entirely of indigenous materials with an accent on comfort.  The inherent rustic feel lends a unique atmosphere to the lodge.

Timber walkways meander through the islands forest and interlink the chalets to the main unit.  This unit comprises of a communal bar, dining room, lounge and open-air boma with a large viewing deck that overhangs the river.  The seven en-suite double chalets allows for privacy and comfort.  Each chalet has a private deck overlooking the channel system.

All required facilities are provided for meetings and they offer activities, a bar and meals.  The lodge can also be privately booked for individual groups - consult the manager.
At Sakazima you can enjoy angling (Tiger and tasty Bream) as well as challenging fly-fishing conditions.  Some of the other activities of Sakazima include boat rides, makoro excursions, island walks with great birding opportunities and the more adventurous can swim the rapids or go game-viewing in nearby game parks.

The lodge caters for a maximum of fourteen guests (full board) in seven en-suite double chalets.  Individual groups can book the lodge for self-catering, making use of our fully equipped kitchen, restaurant and boma area.  To be arranged with manager.

A campsite on the riverbank is also available for guests with their own camping gear.

They also design tailor made adventures safaris to the remote north western Liuwa National Park through the Barotse Floodplain and to various other areas in Southern Africa. Sakazima is one days drive from places such as Kafue National Park, Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta and Rundu in Namibia.
