Situated in busy Gamede Street, Retswelapele Bakery prides itself on its homemade scones, buns, vetkoek (savoury deep-fried dumplings), bread and mageu, meat-pies and hamburgers.

The small business’s kitchen is also used to cater for parties, weddings, funerals, unveiling of tombstone ceremonies and other occasions. The spirit of ‘masakhane’ (caring for and assisting others) is very evident at Retswelapele Bakery, where the owner and staff contribute much to the development of the local community, especially unemployed women, and strive to regenerate African culture in the town.
