Mapula Selina Magamba

.Selina has been making grass brooms since 1965 to supplement the income of her family.

Gathering the grass that grows free and wild in a nearby field, Selina joins each stalk to another by hand, using a durable twine, until a flat “skirt” is created.  The skirt is then rolled, swiss roll style, into a bundle that is again secured at its head by the twine, thus creating a grass broom.

Selina’s main market is in nearby Groblersdal, where she travels at the end of each month.  Finding a suitable spot, she then settles down to sell her brooms to passing traffic

I live in the Western Cape & finding grass brooms here is a mission & a half, yet with all the dust one needs a grass broom to do the proper job. I am interested in getting grass brooms from KZN in bulk to sell here in Cape Town because believe me if people knew what they are capable of it would sell like hot cakes. Please let me know where I can get these and at what price. I am looking to start off with 100.
