Knitting Unlimited
Beatrice explains her business in her own words:
"I started knitting and needlework when I was very young, just five years old. As time went on, my aunt encouraged me to put more effort into my hobby. In 1990 people in the area where I lived started to admire my things, they came to buy for themselves and eventually for business. Because people were buying for business, I decided to train other people in order to be able to meet the demand. In 1998 my sister told me to go out of the country (Zimbabwe) with my things. At first I found it very difficult, but she encouraged me to go to Plettenberg Bay, and in 2001 Kranshoek, where I sold different items such as jerseys, bedspreads and baskets."
"At this time I was travelling up and down between Zimbabwe and South Africa as I was still making all the things in Zimbabwe, and bringing them to sell in South Africa. In 2004 I met Lennie Jansen, who asked me if I wanted to work at the Kranshoek Community Development Centre. There was a broken knitting machine, and I fixed it and started using it. This improved my business, and I am very grateful and willing to accommodate other ladies who would like to join the business as it grows."
