Kharkhams Vuurvliegie Tourism Group
The Kharkhams Vuurvliegie (which means 'firefly') Tourism Group is in the process of securing an office within the municipal building. They are also looking to produce postcards.
The group also received funding through which they have been able to upgrade some facilities in the town and create a campsite with ablution blocks and braai (barbecue) facilities. Wood and craft such as needlework can be bought from the group. It is also possible to arrange for a traditional meal to be served to visitors. It is also possible to stay with some villagers in their houses as five homeowners operate homestays.
Storytellers, a ‘bossiedoktor’ and nature guides are also available and can be booked through the tourism group. Why not take a walking tour around the village to see the school, old church building (circa 1900), some fascinating old implements, and to learn about the medicinal uses of some of the Namaqualand plants.
