Ipopeng Job Creation Trust

In 1995, about eleven people from Ipopeng Township outside Fauresmith gathered to discuss a way in which they could provide for themselves.  They each put R20 into the pool and with the help of a social worker, started a chicken and pig farm.

The site was originally a rubbish heap.  They removed all the rubbish and built a chicken pen.  Today over thirty people are employed.  Profit from the business is used to buy new poultry and pigs as well as seeds and plants for the vegetable patch.  The rest is divided between the workers.  The produce of the project is sold in Ipopeng and Fauresmith.
