Golwe Eco-Tourism Co-operative

Please note:  Booking is not required at this facility, but notice of arrival is appreciated so that preparations can be made.

Golwe Picnic and Campsite is situated under large shady trees in a secluded valley in Venda. The site is rural and tranquil, an ideal place to which to get-away.

The site has ablution facilities with hot and cold water and flushing toilets. Braai (barbeque) stands are also available, as well as picnic tables and four camp sites that can accommodate more than four campers. The site is accessible to two wheel drive vehicles and off-road caravans.

Traditional cuisine can be served with prior arrangement.

The site offers a range of activities:

Bird-watching:  Bird-watching is good in and around the campsite. Special birds that can be spotted include the African Broadbill, Pink-throated Twinspot, Scaly-throated Honeyguide and Crowned Hornbill.

Trails: Marked circular trails lead from the campsite up the valley and to a waterfall.

Attractions in the area: Mapaphuli Cycad Reserve, Makhuya Park and Gundani Brachystegia Woodland.

Community development: Golwe is owned and run by members of the Vhurivhuri community. All proceeds go towards community development and support unemployed  people in the village.
