Baviaanskloof Backpackers

Baviaanskloof Backpackers is situated in a farmhouse, in the heart of the Baviaanskloof. 

In the words of the founders:

"We started this business as we perceived a lack of accommodation aimed at alternative travellers in the Baviaanskloof as well as to fight poverty.  We are a creative alternative lifestyle community - we have chosen to live without the disturbing influences of electricity and telephones and the bath and shower are therefore solar heated.  There is spring water on tap.  There is a dormitory as well as double rooms for those preferring privacy.  There is a spacious farm kitchen with a wood stove, gas fridge and stove.  Plates and cutlery are supplied.  There is a general dealer nearby for those needing supplies.  Exceptional vegan meals are available on request".

There are 700ha of pristine Fynbos, mountain sloped and scenery bordering on the Baviaanskloof River, with game viewing opportunities.

Activities offered include:

• Guided or self-guided wilderness hikes.  Visitors can hike to bushman paintings and to the top of a spectacular river gorge;
• Participation in farm activities; and
• Swimming in the farm reservoir.

There is also a tree and succulent nursery, and visitors can buy plants as well as organic vegetables and "the most exquisite pepperdew pickles".
