Spirit of Adventure:

Spirit of Adventure is located in the Shongweni Dam and Game Reserve. This 1700 hectare reserve is situated approximately 40km from Durban. It is home to buffalo, rhino, giraffe, a variety of antelope and in the region of 200 species of birds. Spirit of Adventure has used this setting since 1994 to conduct leadership, personal development and team building events for students from pre-school to tertiary as well as various corporate events.

Your group will fall under the professional guidance and supervision of an instructor. The instructor will make certain that every activity is carried out safely and enjoyably. These activities will take place on land, water and rock faces.  Spirit of Adventure activities are by nature exciting and adventurous.

The following activities are available:

Individual activities:

  • Abseiling or rap jump down the dam wall:  1½ hours. Cost per person – R120 two descents, thereafter additional R100/descent;
  • Rock-climbing on a natural rock face:  1½ hours. Cost per person – R120 for two climbs, thereafter an additional R100/climb;
  • Canoe journey:  1½ hours. Cost per person – R120;
  • Game drive:  1-3 hours. Cost per person – R112, minimum of six people.

Combo package – 3 activities:

  • Abseiling or rap jump;
  • Rock-climbing;
  • Canoe Journey or raft race (raft race requires 8 or more people) 4 hours. Cost per person – R340.

Please note:  The above activity durations are an approximate length of time and may vary dependant on the group size and capability. Non participants are required to sign an indemnity form and will be charged.

Abseiling at Howick Falls:

The 107m abseil at the Howick Falls is an incredible experience!!!

You are hanging off a rope way above the plunge pool and looking across at the huge waterfall, before you land in the boat at the base. They usually run two abseil lines side-by-side so you can share the experience with friends or family on the way down.

* Fee includes all abseiling equipment and instructors fees. Does not include transport of participants;
* Any number of participants with a minimum of three (or the price for three people; and a maximum of 40 per day).

Spirit of Adventure Guided Walks:

Spirit of Adventure is located in the Shongweni Dam and Game Reserve. This 1700 hectare reserve is situated approximately 40km from Durban. It is home to buffalo, rhino, giraffe, a variety of antelope and in the region of 200 species of birds. Your group will be guided by a trained instructor to ensure your safety. The distance, duration and difficulty of these trails are an approximation and depend on the age and level of fitness of the group.

Guided trails:

Lovers Bench:

A gentle and scenic walk offering one of the best views of the dam whilst keeping an eye out for game such as:  bushbuck, wildebeest, grey duiker and impala…suitable for the whole family.

Shongweni Trek:

An easy to moderate trek around the dam enjoying the view and the wildlife, also experience a walk through a 655m tunnel! Suitable for the whole family with a reasonable level of fitness and endurance due to the length of the walk.

Mkangoma Traverse:

A challenging and yet very scenic walk with spectacular views. This walk has two very steep climbs and as the saying goes “what goes up must come down.” This traverse includes a walk through a tunnel underneath the Shongweni Dam Wall!

Mkangoma Falls:

A very challenging walk to the falls providing some excellent spots to view the surrounds, as well as an opportunity to swim below the falls.

Guided trail combo pack:

Mkangoma Traverse & 60m abseil :

This trail is a very scenic walk with spectacular views across the Nkangoma valley. There are two very steep climbs and as the saying goes “what goes up must come down.” This walk includes a rare opportunity to walk through a tunnel underneath the Shongweni Dam Wall! Included in this walk is an adrenalin pumping 60m abseil off a rock face.

Corporate teambuilding options are also available.

Spirit of Adventure has been in operation since 1994 at their camp facility at Shongweni Dam. They have hosted many corporate teambuilding and leadership development courses, both at the facility and at various other venues. Days are structured to ensure team interaction. The events in themselves require one on one and team co-operation in order for the teams to find success. All the activities range from high to low impact to suit the energy levels of your group.

Activities:

Spirit of Adventure will tailor make your team build event including some of the following activities:

  • Abseiling obstacle and problem-solving challenges;
  • Rock-climbing;
  • Canoeing and kayaking;
  • Raft building and racing;
  • GPS navigational races;
  • Strategy and team challenges; and
  • High rope structure.

*Game drives are available at an additional cost of R112.00 per person with a minimum of 6 people.

Teambuilding cost:

(Includes all Spirit of Adventure services and conference facility).

Between 1-12 people: 

  • 24 Hours (one full day and one full night):  R585.00 per person;
  • Half day – R465.00 per person;
  • Full day – R520.00 per person.

Between 13-25 people:

  • 24 Hours (one full day and one full night):  R540.00 per person;
  • Half day:  R380.00 per person;
  • Full day:  R440.00 per person.

Between 26-49 people:

  • 24 Hours (one full day and one full night):  R490.00 per person;
  • Half day:  R330.00 per person;
  • Full day:  R380.00 per person.

Please note: There is a minimum charge of R4000.00 excluding VAT. 

Catering:

Unfortunately there is no option to self-cater – please enquire about their menu options. Minimum for these menus are 10 people, or the price of 10 people. They are able to supply drinks at R9.50 per drink.

Accommodation:

There are tented decks overlooking the dam which can accommodate 20 people.

Sleeper cost:

  • 4 x Two sleeper deck:  R410.00 per deck per night;
  • 3 x Four sleeper deck:  R640.00 per deck per night.

Please note: Ten additional people can be accommodated in tents adjacent to the decks @ R160.00 per person per night.

VAT will be added to all the above prices.
