Bergrivier Eco Retreat is situated close to the hamlets of Thornhill, Loerie, Hankey and Patensie. The beautiful farm has been home to the Williams family for the past 150 years.
The farm provides accommodation in the form of three well-equipped self-catering chalets, as well as a campsite and two restored pioneer wagons. The rondavel is a bed-sitter with a double bed and convenient braai (barbeque) facilities. The wooden house has a separate bedroom with a double bed, as well a loft with two single beds (sleeps four). It is fully equipped for self-catering. A brand new family chalet sleeping six people is also available. The chalet has a main bedroom with a double bed and another bedroom with two single beds. Another two beds in the living room can also be used. There is a big living area where families can enjoy their holiday, as well as spectacular nature views. The braai (barbeque) area outside is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors. All three chalets have a spectacular view of the surrounding hills.
For campers there is a picturesque campsite close to the river (for tents or 4x4 caravans only). There are four toilets and showers available.
Each of the two pioneer wagons sleeps four guests with an adjoining cabin providing sleeping space for two more guests. There is an outdoor shower with a 'donkey' for hot water. Each cabin has a toilet and hand basin, as well as a basin for dishes. Basic eating and cooking utensils, as well as a small gas stove are available. However, you need to bring your own linen and towels.
Bergrivier Eco Retreat has a variety of flora, with three biomes (habitats) in one location, namely fynbos, thicket and forest. This is a paradise for birdwatchers. The beautiful Knysna Loerie is spotted frequently and at night visitors can hear the Night Jar calling. The Crown Eagle nests in the kloof nearby and visitors can often see the eagle soaring over the hills. Game like bushbuck, rheebuck, grey buck, duiker are indigenous to the area, as well as baboons and monkeys.
Visitors can explore the area, go hiking or swim in the river.
In short, Bergrivier offers an ideal breakaway from the rat-race!
