Hello Caroline I have only seen this advertisement created by Open Africa today 7th March 2010... My costs are cheaper than other safari companies in Vilankulo and we also give a for more superior trip. Ask any Hotel or Lodge in Vilankulo if they have ever seen me drinking alcohol, or if they have had complaints about my company or services. This is deformation of character, show some proof in the future. Regards Junior

I strongly WOULDN'T recommend Drakensberg Ventures based on our experience with them in Jan 2010. There have got to be better, more passionate, organised and experienced people out there. Just because they achieve good search ratings with their website most certainly doesn't make them the number one company. They just took our money and ran basically.

Message for Riette. I will be launching a new book Huberta the untold story. As the name discloses it is about Huberta but far more than has ever been written with 30 pics and historical accounts never recorded. I am planning two launches ideally the first at St Lucia (birthplace of Huberta) and 2nd launch at the Amathole museum KWT where she is on display. I spoke to Adele who said that maybe you could arrange a launch on St Lucia lake. Could you please come back to me as the planned launch date is the 23rd April 2010. Kindest regards Jean

we visited both the Isandlwana and Rorkes drift shops during our visit to South Africa and were very impressed with the quality and items for sale. So much so we were worried that a magnificent carving of a Zulu warrior we fell in love with wouldnt survive our travels and would prove to heavy for our luggage allowance. But Wylie and Sally said just let us know when your back home and we will post it on - which we did, not expecting such an ornate and delicate item to arrive intact. But with Wylies amazing packaging skills it did!! They are a lovely couple and nothing is too much trouble for them and their staff. i thoroughly recommend a visit if your in that neck of the woods, you will not be dissapointed!

I suggest that to have diversified activities in the park why not include a display of our artistic work as vendas that we grew up doing, e.g a display of lifi used to catch pegions, gwekwe, mulavhu and so on, this can be very interesting to our visitors who do not have much history about us......anyway I think this can add value to the park.

Dear Francois, Herewith I would like to notify you that I have written a book amongst others about h e a l i n g of HIV and AIDS! It also deals with my late husbands and my coming back to South Africa, the first turbulent years here and my childhood in South Africa. V e r y interesting, for instance Police Investigation at varsity, devil sect priest in my house etc, The AIDS question is also very much up to date, because it is simply not true that AIDS is not curable (see www.aidsiscurable.co.za). It is called Container, fertig, los Erinnerungen imd Erfahrungen einer Heilpraktikerin in Suedafrika, and I would like to see it distributed to all places where Germans are spending their holidays. The English translation will be available in about two months. Please also think of distribution throughout the soccer world cup places. Thanks very much, and please come back to me a.s.a.p. Hello there. I am so happy that i've found this website! I love Ndebele art and my year 7 students are studying it with me at school and find it so much fun. I thought it would be a great opportunity to create a relationship with a High School in South Africa, perhaps the Middelburg region. We could create an online blog where children from both schools can share their experiences, photos and artwork. My class would be very interested to hear about the lives of other children many miles away. Do you know of any schools and how i might go about doing this? Keep up the good work!!

Place was tranquil and peaceful however the description per the information on the website was misleading. The place is not an "apartment" but rather someone's holiday home that is being let out. The cottage is also on remote farm which needs to be accessed via dirt roads. We did feel abit unsafe on the property. The cottage itself had a very old and rustic feel to it and was surrounded by alot of vegetation. If visiting, stock up on the insect repellent. Also found a scorpion in the bedroom on the last day of our stay. Shower did not work properly and at the best of times had a trickle of hot water. Will only recommend to those who want to experience a very rural and rustic holiday. Definitely not visiting this place again!!!!!

My sister is working for your company and the sad part is that she doesn't even know her manager and no contract of employment was signed with her.....and now there is a serious health hazard that she has due to her service to your company, she was recently robbed at gun point which terrified her and beaten to near death and nothing was done about it meaning even if she was shot nothing could have been done by your company, while to my knowledge it's an injury on duty and help should come from the company, counselling and the medical bills incurred are your responsibility, I really can't afford to take her to counselling due to finance and it's responsibility....she should be compensated whether permanent or not, since she's working for your company and considered to be an employee.

The following message, describing my experiences in Vilanculos, Mozambique have just been posted on the Lonely Planet Guide and the Rough Guide website. I hope you single out the anti-social members of your community and deal with them promptly as they are causing your reputation great harm. This warning is aimed at the backpackers out there that like smoking other things other than just tobacco. Bao Bab beach backpackers, in Vilanculos, Mozambique, is a great place to kick back and relax, it has a great vibe and provides what appears to be a safe environment. Well there is an employee of 'Dolphin Dhow Safaris' (a company which organises trips to the Bazaruto Archipelago and who is associated with bao-bab) who deliberately hangs out at the backpackers and as soon as he sees anyone smoking anything illegal he contacts his friends at the local police station who come down guns blazing take the backpackers to the police station and scare them into offering a heavy bribe to get out of the situation. Later the bribe money is devided between the cops and the guy from 'Dolphin Dhow Safaris'. It is a shame, and the expression "shooting yourself in the foot'' comes to mind but this is how it is. I wouldn't want to blacklist these two companies as they also employ and are run by decent people who would be effected by a boycott. I just thought I would put the info out there and let the backpackers decide whether they want to be careful when they go to these places or if they want to avoid them all together.

Baie groete Andra Botha

It seems to me its about who you know when it comes to getting your meat pn the fire. I arrived there when it wasnt extremely busy, waited about 2 hours for my meat! People who arrived AFTER me received their meat before me. I was hungover and very hungry and you can imagine how not impressed i was. Needless to say i still enjoyed the meat but im not going there again if its not on a proper basis. I mean our till slips have numbers but clearly that system aint working. I happen to be a web developer and could put a very good shopping site together for you. There would be no charge for this web site and I would only charge a very small commission on every sale. You would be able to sell your crafts world wide. All you would need is a digital camera and an internet connection. If you are interested let me know. In the mean time how can I buy another carpet and how much are they these days. Humba Gashli William

I have seen 3 copies of Duggan-Cronin's collection of plates. In particular the one on the tribes of the Transkei and Ciskei, The Tswana and the Swazi. Excelent pieces of work. I am a student @ Alice, Fort Hare. Its unbelievable that this institution does not have these historical artifacts in their archives. How would one get ahold of the plates if they are out of Kimberley.

Sharon’s comment posted 28th April referring to Durnfords Lodge is far from the truth. We have stayed at Durnfords Lodge on numerous occasions, and find the accommodation, facilities and the hosts to be exceptionally warm and accommodating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Durnfords Lodge to anyone.

Karen on 29th of April, 2009 at 14:42.

I recommend Durnford's. It has everything you need for a pleasant stay. My two young sons never want to leave. Paddy-Ann makes them feel so special. We have never experienced what Sharon has said. I can not believe Sharon could say such things. Ronell

Ronell and Family on 29th of April, 2009 at 13:43.

When I was told to read comments made by Sharon about Durnford's Lodge on your website my first thought was POOR SHARON. People who are not used to finer things in life react as she has. I have only experienced the best at Durnford's. I will returned everytime I am in Ladysmith. Liza

Liza on 29th of April, 2009 at 13:34.

I can not believe what I have read about what Sharon wrote about her stay at Durnford's Lodge.I am sure that she is not referring to the Durnford's Lodge that I know. I have been using the facilities at Durnford's Lodge for the last five years for all our meetings and functions, that's at least 8 times a year. All our speakers sleep over at the Lodge. Charles and Paddy-Ann are perfect hosts and they are always go out of their way to cater for all our different race groups and religions. The lodge, gardens and conference centre are the best I have used in a long time. Congratulations Durnford. Margaret

Margaret Hurter on 29th of April, 2009 at 13:20.

I refer to the comment posted on the 28th April by Sharon refering to Durnfords Lodge. I find this comment to be extremely unfair as we have stayed at this Lodge on numerous occassions and will testify to the rooms being very clean and well decorated, with Charles and Paddy Ann generous and accomodating hosts who go out of their way to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. I highly recommend Durnfords Lodge and would encourage Open Africa to first investigate these sort of posts before allowing them to be read on their website as this is a post is a blatant lie.

Michelle on 29th of April, 2009 at 11:24.

I refer to the comment made by Sharon on the 28th April 2009. This lodge has a 4 star grading, done by AA Tourism, and is graded and checked regularly. We take exception to the attitude taken by Sharon and refrain from entering into any further email battles. We are confident and stand by our grading. Paddy ann

I Personally thank Mr. PJ Monana for such a post on the web. But I see this only quote back to 2004/5 - Some of us were in this School as far as 1996, my last year. I beleive the principal have moved from the school and we (as the former students of this school, some of them found on the Facebook group "Lepelle High") need to know of the latest updates. I suggest events such be held anually or quarterly to mark or celebrate what it proced in the previous years, like maybe calling upon students and teachers of certain year - like for instance, class of 1995 / 1996. I stronly beleive some of us would like to contribute back to the school that made us. ie, we might have used computers to give, or look at the facilities that the school lack, and take it from there. This was a good initiative to post the school but someone need to follow up on what's said / done from the last post. In Loving Memories of my Secondary School Mr. Phenias L. Just spent this weekend there. It was very nice! Johan was most kind and helpful! However, I do have to say that this was not the tranquil and peaceful place I envisaged. We were completely surrounded by noisy, smelly 4-wheelers riding through the camp. They were parked everywhere, even had to walk around them to get to the ablutions! I realise that these vehicles are permitted, but could they not park off to one side of the site? and stick to the designated tracks!? Regards, Linda

We called and it was there, safe & sound. Gini had it shiiped to me , thus saving us an additional 6 hr. drive. It arriived a few days later at our final destination, with all contents in tact, money, credit cards, jewelery, binoculars, etc. Gini's honesty and concern saved our vacation. Thanks.

I have visited Mozambique many times and not once have Ibeen disapointed inthe placees we have stayed. Most places to the north are accessable with a normal LDV with diff lock. At present other than accommodation being expensive, one can still have a relatively cheap holiday. On negative note, there are some South Africans who are bent on destroying the ecology by totaly ignoring the ban on beach driving. The quads especialy are destroying every that gets in their way. The Mozambique authorities should take severe action against these HOOLIGANS.
